Another Year Closer to Sustainability & Carbon Neutrality

Sustainability initiatives have become imperative for businesses across all industries. For us at Kite Group, the path to a more sustainable future is not just about meeting regulatory requirements; it's about creating a positive impact on the environment and future generations. Our dedication to sustainability is not only evident in the products we provide but also in our ongoing efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. This commitment has recently been recognised through the achievement of another year of Planet Mark accreditation - an important milestone on our journey to becoming carbon neutral.

Sustainability as a culture

Kite Group’s dedication to sustainability is built on a foundation of responsible practices that focus on reducing environmental impact while delivering high-quality solutions to our customers. As a company that designs and manufactures permanent access and safety systems, Kite Group is uniquely positioned to influence sustainability in a sector that is traditionally energy-intensive. For example, our GRP products use up to 75% less energy to produce than steel, and are a long-lasting alternative that requires less maintenance and upkeep. By integrating sustainable practices into the design, production, and delivery of our products, Kite leads by example, showing that businesses in the construction and manufacturing sectors can be both successful and sustainable.

Which products are the most sustainable?

Sustainability in design starts with the products we use, and there are many factors to consider what makes a product more ‘green’ than another. Emissions produced and energy expended in the creation, transport and installation of safety systems should all be accounted for, as well as taking into account the longevity and energy expended in the maintenance of a safety system. Here are a few of our products with particularly green credentials:

GRP – our whole GRP range, from flooring to handrails, access ladders to step-over platforms bring the benefits of this wonder material. It is energy-efficient to produce, light to transport, durable and has superior corrosion resistance to steel, as well as a host of other benefits. For a long term, sustainable solution, consider GRP for your safety system.

Modifix – this pioneering handrail system from Kite Group uses laser cutting to reduce the amount of steel required in a standard industrial handrail. As well as using less steel, the system does not require welding, which in turn reduces the harmful emissions that pollute the air, land and water.

Modular systems – most of our products are fully modular and sold according to our customers requirements. This method reduces potential waste in a project as component parts can be scaled up or down, reused or returned if not needed. Modular systems are a cost-effective and sustainable approach to project design.

Another year of Planet Mark Accreditation

For the third year in a row, Kite Group has successfully recorded our carbon emissions and contributed to our broader environmental goals. Planet Mark is a certification program that supports businesses in becoming more sustainable by helping them reduce their carbon emissions and operate more efficiently. Last year, the entire staff took part in a Sustainability energiser workshop that allowed us to brainstorm ideas to cut our emissions and become a greener company. Both this workshop and our accreditation reflect our dedication to accountability and transparency, as well as our commitment to fostering long-term environmental and societal benefits.

The Journey to Carbon Neutral

Kite Group’s commitment to sustainability does not end with obtaining Planet Mark accreditation. In fact, it is only one step in our broader plan to become carbon neutral. This ambitious goal involves reducing greenhouse gas emissions in every aspect of our operations— from the materials we use and the energy we consume, to the products we deliver and the way we engage with suppliers and customers. This ongoing process is reflected in our Corporate Social Responsibility policy that is updated every year – this policy also helped us to win Constructionline Gold accreditation.

Leading the Way in sustainability

Kite Group’s commitment to sustainability can set a positive example for others in the industry. By prioritising environmental responsibility, we show that sustainability and profitability can go hand-in-hand. Our journey to carbon neutrality is not just about improving our own operations,  but also about inspiring others to follow suit. We believe that every company, no matter its size or industry, has a role to play in protecting our planet.

Looking to the Future

Kite Group’s continued accreditation by Planet Mark is a reflection of our company’s forward-thinking approach to business and sustainability. Our efforts to become carbon neutral demonstrate that sustainability is not just a trend, but a core value that guides our operations. With this ongoing commitment to reducing environmental impact and driving positive change, we are not just helping to shape the future of the industry, but also leading the charge towards a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.
