2024 in Review

Updated: 6 days ago

2024 was a year for new developments at Kite Group. From dynamic new leadership to innovative new safety solutions, let’s take a moment to celebrate Kite’s year in review, and look forward to 2025.

New Faces

In January, Kite Group were excited to announce the appointment of our new Managing Director, Roger Paterson. Roger brought with him a passion for growing the business and a mindset of continual improvement that has been a benefit to Kite Group this year.

In May, we welcomed Roger’s son Lance Paterson as a key player in the Business Development of Kite Group. Lance is passionate about negotiation and relationship building, going above and beyond for our new customers.

This month, we welcomed Sales Assistant Theresa Lapera to our team to strengthen our Sales capacity and help us deliver excellent customer service.

We have also refurnished our website's Home Page with new design and photos of the team and an updated About Us section, which highlighted our vision and purpose. Our purpose, mission and vision to be the leading provider of safety solutions is one that will carry us into 2025.

New Projects

2024 was a busy year for supplying both products and expertise to some fantastic projects.

This year, we devised a bespoke Three Ball Standard for a large commercial building in London. The project focused on sustainable construction practices and efficiency of design. Kite also supplied Mesh Infill panels to enhance the safety of the handrail and reduce risk of injury from falling objects.

2024 was another big year for our Freestanding Roof Edge products, which were the focus of our Farnworth Leisure Centre job. Bolton Council took the leap to upgrade the energy efficiency of this important community leisure centre, and so solar panels were installed on the roof. The best option to keep installation and maintenance crews safe with minimal impact on the building itself was our Freestanding Roof Edge system.

We are also passionate about our local projects, and this year we were able to complete a project down at the Port of Leith. The Port is as economically important today as it has been since the 14th century, with the capacity to handle vessels up to 50,000 deadweight tonnes. The safety of workers, visitors and traffic near the water is a major concern of Forth Ports Group, and this year it invested in handrails, crash barriers and anti-slip flooring to safeguard and enhance its operational efficiency.

New Bespoke Solutions

Another project that stood out for us this year was our role in the Chelsea Flower Show’s award-winning Bridge to 2030 Garden. While Kite often focuses on safety solutions in commercial and industrial settings, this job relied heavily on a specific aesthetic to meet the client’s wishes. We supplied a fully customised ball-standard handrail system to provide a secure rail for visitors to the garden. Our customer was wanted a weathered, natural look that blended seamlessly with the lush foliage and other natural features of the garden.

To achieve this, our self-colour steel products were allowed to rust before installation, creating a rustic look that elevated the safety and accessibility of the garden. The garden ended up winning a Silver Gilt and Best Construction Award at the 2024 Chelsea Flower Show. We believe that when our customers excel, Kite does too.

New Achievements

Kite were proud to renew our Planet Mark membership for another year, making this the second year on our journey to carbon neutrality. With another year of data to examine, we were able to measure our impact and forecast trends for our company’s carbon footprint. In May, our whole team took part in a Sustainability Energiser Workshop to brainstorm ideas to reduce our carbon footprint. It was a great chance to discuss our responsibility to reduce emissions and foreground solutions to focus on as we move forward in our journey to Net Zero.

This year we also renewed our Constructionline Gold Accreditation. This includes our Social Value award, our Safety Schemes in Procurement and Acclaim Accreditation, as well as recognising our ISO certification for Quality Management Systems, Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems and Environmental Management Systems. Constructionline Gold had new standards this year which

Kite Group were glad to meet, reflecting our commitment to continual improvement. Safety is the very heart of our culture here at Kite, and we are delighted that our updated achievements reflect this.

New Opportunities for 2025

Overall, Kite Group welcomed a lot of changes in 2024 – new team members, new site visits and projects, and new achievements. We look forward to 2025 and all the fresh opportunities this coming year can bring.

Wishing you all restful holidays and a happy New Year from us at Kite Group.
