HarperCollins UK's distribution current centre in Bishopbriggs, Glasgow, spans over 110 acres and includes two facilities with a combined area of 70,000 square meters (750,000 square feet). The centre holds Environmental ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 accreditations, as well as an International Safety Award.
HarperCollins decided to close their premises at Bishopbriggs by 2025 and move to a new facility in Robroyston. The new premises will comprise of a 500,000 sq ft storage and distribution warehouse, with ancillary offices and vehicle parking. Given the anticipated high volume of distribution activities, a robust solution was necessary to protect the racks, moving vehicles, and staff within the centre. Many processes will be automated using advanced sorting equipment and sophisticated voice-picking technology, however ensuring safety remained a top priority.

KITE'S PART OF THE PROJECT
Kite Group supplied a comprehensive Crash Barrier System to address the safety needs of the new HarperCollins' distribution centre. This system is designed to safeguard the facility's infrastructure and personnel by preventing accidents and minimising damage from moving vehicles. Key features of the system include:
Enhanced Safety: The crash barrier system provides critical protection for racks, vehicles, and staff, significantly reducing the risk of accidents.
Durability: Constructed from high-quality, galvanised materials, the barriers are built to withstand heavy impacts, ensuring long-term reliability.
The system can withstand the force of a 1500kg vehicle traveling at 10mph.
Compliance: Kite Crash Barrier system is compliant with BS6399 – 1:1996, BS6180:1999 and department Transport and the Regions, contributing to HarperCollins' commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient operational environment
