Gas Refinery Unit

PROJECT DETAILS

Our customer builds special structural modules for gas refineries. These units are assembled on the ground and then despatched to their final destination in the sea. Safety is a critical factor during the assembly process to protect engineers and technicians from slips and falls.

The key requirements were based on delivering the following systems with a quick turnaround:

-    A sleek and durable handrail system provided with a protective kick plate system surrounding all unit levels.
-    A durable open mesh panel that could form a solid walkway system for all levels of the unit.
-    Customised access ladders that vary in height between 1000 and 4000 mm with protective hoops and self-closing gates.

DID YOU KNOW?

Three of the six refineries in the current network (Fawley, Grangemouth, and Stanlow) can trace their origins back to the 1920s, while the other three facilities (Pembroke, Lindsey, and Humber) were commissioned in the post-WW2 era.

These refineries don’t just refine crude oil; they also process used cooking oil, animal fats, and even recycled plastics to create fuel. It’s like they’re saying, “We’ll turn your old fryer oil into horsepower.”

KITE'S PART OF THE PROJECT

Kite understood the customer’s needs and supplied the ModiFix laser-cut handrail system, which is galvanised with high durability, efficient assembly and environmentally friendly features.

The system doesn’t use any clamps attached to uprights. The laser cut holes on the uprights provide access to the horizontal rails, allowing them to intersect and form a safe system without many types of Clamp Fittings normally used to connect rails to uprights. Instead, the only clamp fittings needed are to connect lengths of tube and at corners.

The handrail system was supplied with a Kick Plate System, Galvanised Open Mesh Panels & all bespoke sizes of Galvanised Access Ladders.
